Q4. How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

I used a wide variety of new technology within my project. I used websites such as youtube and wikipedia to research my artists and their music videos. I also used Spotfy, which is an online music sharing program, to listen to Radiohead's music on my phone even when i wasn't at home to get a feel of what their music is like as I wasn't a fan of their music originally. I used my sony SLR camera to take photos of the locations that we would be shooting at to document it and look over them later on when deciding the narrative and how it will look visually.

I used iMovie to edit the music video and import and export it. As I have used it at the end of last year to also edit a music video, i found it really easy to use. I also used Photoshop CS4 to edit the ancillary tasks. I use Photoshop a lot within my photography work as well, so it was quite simple for me to edit them as I also knew what I wanted them to look like. I used the program Picasa which is from Google to view the photos and arrange them. My scanner was also used to scan the brain storms that we made and uploaded on our blog.

To film my music video, I used my own SLR camera (Sony A33) which is very new technology and has the HD recording feature too. I got this camera as I felt that the quality of the school cameras would decrease while editing and you don't have much control and variety as with the SLR.

Q3. What have you learnt from your audience feedback?

Q2. How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

I believe that the combination of all the products that I have created is very good. I have done a separate photo shoot for the creation of the CD cover and poster rather than take screen shots from the music video. I used the same location as the video shoot to take photos so that the audience would immediately know that they are connected. I have also used the same props and actor as in the video. The content is also similar as he has pills in his hands on the CD and the poster. I have edited them in the same way in Photoshop to get the same bluish, de-saturated tones. I think that the symbolism of the pills as something that takes pain away in evident. For the poster, I had the idea of taking photos of him dropping the pills so that i can capture them in mid air. I then photo shopped these images together to make it seem as if there are a lot of pills. I then rotated the photo so that it will print in A4 and that it give an illusion of the pills falling the other way. I used the same font for the album cover text and the text on the poster. Overall, I am really happy with the production of my ancillary tasks as they look good with the music video and they're in the same style. However, to improve, I would maybe change some of the imagery and location so that it doesn't get boring for the audience. I would also do some art work of my own for the CD cover as Radiohead include a lot of art work which makes their fans recognise their albums.

Q1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

I think that my media product challenges conventions of music videos. I decided to not use lip syncing within the video but show a narrative that would keep the audience interested. I have researched a lot of Radiohead's videos which are artistic and different form the usual rock videos as well. I think that my music video fit in with all of the other Radiohead videos as it is different and tell a narrative like their music video of "Pyramid Song". I also edited the video footage and changed the exposure, contrast, brightness, saturation and white point to give the video a dull, gritty, bluish tone. My video also matches the music as when the beat stops and starts again, the video changes too to match it. This is a convention that I have used and kept. I have also decided to keep my video in chronological order which most music videos do.

My CD cover and poster develop conventions of these products. I wanted the poster to look more like a movie poster as I wanted to focus on the story telling aspect within the video. I added quotes from magazine that I made up and added an apple logo at the bottom to let the audience know that it is available on iTunes. The CD cover contains a lot of different images which symbolise different things. I also didn't want this to look too industrial, but more like a visual work of art. I have adapted these products and the conventions for them to fit my own vision and style.
